The Dutch Photo Museum is a museum with all different aspects of photography and a private collection. The Dutch Photo Museum is founded in fact from an estate. The Amsterdam lawyer Hein Wertheimer, deserving amateur photographer, on his death in 1997 left a legacy of the Prince Bernhard Fund, with a mandate to establish a museum of photography. The museum opened its doors in 2003 in Witte de Rotterdam.
Dutch Photo Museum manages the modern climate-controlled warehouses 129 photo archives of Dutch photographers. Altogether three million negatives, slides and prints. The diverse collection covers all forms of photography, from albums to glass negatives, from chrome car to stereo photographs, daguerreotypes to influential Dutch photo projects. The museum has a photo knowledge floor, where visitors with interactive installations to explore photography, the museum's library to consult and take part in educational activities. It also contributes knowledge about museum through its own website and websites in collaboration with other institutions for photography developed.
